Google Business Profile is the single most underused asset for local SMB SEO. A complete and active GBP listing surfaces a business in three high-value places: the Local Pack on the SERP, Google Maps results, and the Knowledge Panel that appears for branded queries. Required fields: name, address, phone (NAP), category, hours, photos. Engagement signals (reviews, posts, Q&A, photo uploads, products/services updates) influence local ranking. The product was renamed from Google My Business (GMB) in late 2021, but most practitioners still call it GMB.
