Knowledge Panel

The card-style information box Google shows on the right of the SERP for entities — people, businesses, places, organizations.

Definition

In long form.

Knowledge Panels are populated from Google's Knowledge Graph, sourced from structured data on a site (Organization schema, Person schema), Wikipedia/Wikidata, Google Business Profile, and other authoritative sources. Triggering one for a brand requires Google to recognize the brand as an entity — usually via consistent NAP, schema markup, social-profile linking via sameAs, and external citations. Verified panel ownership lets a business edit some fields directly.

In context

Standing up a Knowledge Panel for a small consultancy isn't automatic — Google needs enough signals to treat the entity as 'real.' Schema markup with sameAs links to LinkedIn, Crunchbase, and other profiles is part of the recipe; consistent press coverage helps too.
